SECTUR LANZA CONVOCATORIA A CERTAMEN NACIONAL DE PERIODISMO TURÍSTICO 2010

La Secretaría de Turismo (SECTUR) y el Consejo de Promoción Turística de México, S.A. de C.V. (CPTM), convocan a periodistas y reporteros gráficos, a participar en el “Certamen Nacional de Periodismo Turístico 2010”.

Este certamen tiene la finalidad de reconocer el trabajo que realizan los medios de comunicación nacionales, tanto en la difusión de la actividad turística de México, como en su labor por sensibilizar a la opinión pública sobre la importancia de este sector para el desarrollo económico y social de México.

En el presente año hay SIETE categorías que buscan incrementar la competitividad del periodismo turístico, conforme a las siguientes bases:

La recepción de trabajos inicia este martes 23 de febrero y concluirá el próximo viernes 26 de marzo del presente en las oficinas de la Dirección General de Comunicación Social de la Secretaría de Turismo.
Hay siete categorías para el Mejor Trabajo Periodístico de Promoción Turística en Periódico, Revista, Radio y Televisión; Mejor Reportaje Económico Financiero en Periódico o Revista; también se premiará la Mejor Página Web Turística y el Mejor Reportaje Gráfico.

La premiación tendrá lugar durante la 35ª Edición del Tianguis Turístico a realizarse del 25 al 28 de abril del 2009 en Acapulco, Guerrero.

Latin American Unity Summit @ Playa del Carmen

Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon hosted the Group of Rio Summit in Playa del Carmen.

Presidents from most Latin American countries are attending the meeting. Heads of state from the 15-member Caribbean Community are participating for the first time in a Group of Rio event. In his opening speech, Calderon said the summit would look at forming a new expanded organization, to include all those present.
This summit is being held at Caribbean resort, the Grand Velas Hotel, at Playa del Carmen.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon, said the bloc "will consolidate and globally project a Latin American and Caribbean identity." Although Latin American countries, have competing interests of their own _ a point driven home by bickering at the summit.

Latin American Unity Summit Highlights:
· Chavez and Uribe played down the incident Tuesday, promising to work out their differences
· Honduran President Porfirio Lobo was not invited to the summit but Lobo's spokesman said Honduras wants to join.
· Brazilian President Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the United Nations for not pushing more forcefully to reopen the debate on the Falkland Islands

The bloc's formation is expected to take years and faces many challenges but leaders agreed to meet again in Venezuela in 2011.

Short tips to start planning your winter family vacation in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is one of the most attractive destinations in the Mexican Caribbean. Located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, 68 km (42 mi) south of Cancun, it has an ideal subtropical climate with an average temperature of 25º C (77º F) and sunny days throughout most of the year. Getting around
From the Cancun Airport one option is to rent a car or jeep to get from spot to spot. There is also private cab service and airport transfer at affordable rate to the region. A company called ADO provides bus service from the airport to Playa del Carmen. Their terminal is located at the southeast corner of the Main Terminal and the bus to Playa del Carmen departs every hour from 10:30 am to 9:30 pm.

Moving Around
Moving around the area, Cabs are available although expensive. There is also frequent bus service along highway 307 and several companies operate shuttle-type service between Cancun and Tulum with stops at several spots along the way. Rates are affordable, though service is somewhat irregular. Other option customized and personalized in resort transportation at an excellent price.
If you are renting a car the highway connecting Cancun to the Riviera Maya region is a modern, four-lane divided highway that now stretches all the way to Calica (10 km south of Playa del Carmen). La Quinta or 5th avenue | The heart of Playa del Carmen

More than 90 % off all the business from tourism in Playa del Carmen happens on the 5th, la quinta or Fifth Avenue which is most active during the night, when the sun has set.
